The Mares

Our Mares are working girls.
A good pedigree helps, but each mare has to stand on her own merits.
Training is a major expense, riding mares demonstrate their training.
Good riding mares help produce those good riding horses.

We look for three things in our mares.

  1. Athletic ability: We ask for versatility in our horses. They need to be gentle enough for visitors, yet athletic enough for speed and cattle events. We don't have a lot of time and money for showing, but we like to be competitive when we get there.
  2. Disposition: These mares are good to get along with, like to be with people, and let us handle the foals at birth. No bad manners allowed - we like them, and they like us.
  3. Conformation: Good conformation leads to a long and useful life. We require good feet, legs, and topline.

AQHA #4693696 - 2005 Bay Mare

Smart As Texas

Texy is just under 14 hands tall, but she makes up for her size with plenty of balance and quickness. She started her riding career with trainers Jay and Mike McLaughlin. Her sire is Smart War O Lena, a finalist in the Worlds' Greatest Horseman, twice. He also has earnings in cutting, working cowhorse, and reining. Texy's dam is a daughter of Taris Catalyst. With her champion pedigree, we expect foals that have a lot of athletic potential.

Poco Copper Star
AQHA #3696963 - 1998 Sorrel Mare

Poco Copper Star

C Star is a great riding mare, about 16 hands tall. She ropes, sorts, pens and loves to work cattle. She never gets outrun in the roping pen, but is calm in the box. Stout enough for any size of rider and a solid ranch horse. Anyone can ride her, but she is not a babysitter. She's a mare that likes a job.

BCC Docs Penny
AQHA #4528455 - 2004 Bay Mare

BCC Docs Penny

Penny is 15 hands tall and built to be an athlete. She is honest and very responsive under saddle. We're hoping to really put some miles on her this year. Should be a good all around ranch type horse. Plenty of speed and agility for sorting and penning, enough size to do some roping. Fast walk and smooth trot make her fun to trail ride. Doc's Malbec was the 1977 California Reined Cow Horse World Champion Stallion.
